US President Joe Biden agreed to meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, based on the proposal of their French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on the condition that Russia does not invade Ukraine, which is a surprising position that comes at a time when Westerners are talking about an imminent Russian military intervention.

And the Elysee Palace announced, on Sunday night, Monday, that Putin and Biden “agreed on the principle” that they would meet at a summit proposed by Macron, but that “it will not be possible to hold it unless Russia invades Ukraine.”
