U.S. Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

The number of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits increased slightly in mid-February, but the rate of layoffs in the US economy remains steep and shows no sign of rising .

The government said on Thursday that initial jobless claims rose from 4000 to 210.000 in the seven days ended on February 15.
