An explosion rocked a Sunni mosque in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz while worshipers were performing Friday prayers, killing 33 people and injuring dozens, according to officials. In a tweet, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the death toll, noting that 43 people had been wounded. Press reported that the explosion targeted the Mawlawi Iskandar Mosque, north of Kunduz, indicating that the authorities have not yet been able to determine the nature of the explosion. A nurse at a nearby local hospital confirmed to the agency by phone that between 30 and 40 injured people had been received in the blast.
