The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Aviv Kochavi, denied accusing the Palestinian Public Prosecution of Israel of being responsible for the killing of Al-Jazeera journalist, Shirin Abu Aqleh, by saying that the latter "was killed on the battlefield... at the height of military activity aimed at arresting terrorists who planned to target and kill civilians." Their fire is in every direction. Kochavi added, "There is a clear conclusion that can be declared explicitly and without any doubt: There is no IDF soldier who deliberately shot Shirin Abu Aqelah." This came hours after a press conference in which the Palestinian Public Prosecution announced the results of investigations into the killing of the Palestinian journalist. The Palestinian Public Prosecutor, Akram Al-Khatib, said that "it was proven that a member of the Israeli forces fired a live bullet that hit Shireen, directly in the head, while she was trying to escape, which led to brain damage as a result of the projectile injury."
